Another Friendly Safety Reminder From Yours Truly
It's Christmas time now, there's only about as little as three weeks left till December hits the big two-five. Now during this holiday season, having too much fun might result in some injuries that you could be very much avoided. No matter who you are or what you do, there's always a better way of going about with things.
Now with skateboarding, whether it's an extreme sport or not, there's also a better way to go about with skating – and that is to practice the habit of wearing safety equipment at all times. This Christmas season, treat yourself to buying some new safety gear for yourself so that the next time you come crashing down on your board, all you're going to break are some hearts and not some bones.
1. Get your head on straight and always have your helmet at the ready.
Helmets are used in a lot of sports that range from race car driving, hockey, American football and snowboarding. Skateboarding isn't really any different from all these other sports. The common element here is that there is a clear and present danger of you potentially risking a head injury from a fall, crash or a trip.
Now there are a lot of helmets for sale out there, but for the skateboarder in you, it's best that you pick out safety over style. After all, what's the point of wearing on a helmet that is flashy and well designed when it just falls of or breaks in half when you take a fall? Safety should always be first, just so you could get your priorities straight. Although it might cost more, look on the bright side; there should be some really great discounts for helmets right now especially at this time of year.
2. Get the right skate shoes for your feet.
Getting the right skate shoes for you is just like picking out the right tires for your car. If you pick one too big, the fit is definitely going to throw you off cause your feet are as loose in those shoes as a half empty bottle of water. Aside from getting the proper fit for your shoes, you should also consider some ankle support regardless if it is a low cut shoe. You can't afford to twist your ankle on a fall cause for one thing, it's going to hurt like hell and you're going to be sidelined for a good number of weeks till you can walk again or up until the doctor tells you. Nobody likes a broken ankle. Get the right pair of skate shoes for you and your game.
3. Knee pads and elbow pads, definitely better having them on than not.
Aside from busting your ankle, your elbows and knees are equally just as important. That's why skaters on the x-games make it a habit of always wearing them before they go out and do their tricks. Even Tony Hawk had to wear some pads when he was able to pull off the 900.
