Five Skateboard Equipment Items
Skateboarding is one of the most popular extreme sports out there today. In fact, a lot of the youth will at least try it out once before moving on to another sport. What makes skateboarding unique is the equipment that is used so that one can actually “play” the sport.
If you are planning to get into it, you will need to have all the equipment so that you are complete and ready to take on the sport. Here are the things that you will need for skateboarding.
• Deck – First things first. When you go shopping for a skateboard, it's best that you put it together yourself. This doesn't mean that you put it together personally, but you should be able to pick out your own parts.
For this, it is best that you go to a skate shop that specializes in skateboards. So the first thing you need is a deck. There are all sorts of decks of different brands and graphic designs. This is the fun part as you get to see all sorts of designs. Make sure that you get a deck that is sturdy and won't crack under slight to moderate pressure.
• Trucks – Next thing is to pick out the trucks. These are the items that hold your wheels in place and are attached to the bottom of your board, always on top of the graphic. Now, you need trucks that are light but are strong. A good choice is to go with titanium although this might be pricey. Make sure that you get a full set that will include the hangars, bushings, risers, etc.; all of which should be your choice so do a little research on the parts first.
• Wheels – Next, depending on your skill of skateboarding, it's time to choose the wheels. There are large wheels and small ones and you can ask for just the standard size first if you are a beginner. It's important to know where you are skating.
If your activities will mostly take place in parks, then you will need soft wheels if the surfaces of the park floors are smooth. Harder wheels will be needed if you are planning to do street skating. There are also many designs and colors you can choose from when it comes to wheels.
• Safety gear – Never leave the shop without some safety gear. Even the best of skaters will tell you that safety gear is important no matter how “uncool” it may make you look. So make sure you get yourself a helmet to protect your head, a couple of elbow pads and a couple of knee pads. You might also want to get gloves or even shin guards although these are not necessary.
• Shoes – Since you will be using your feet most of the time, the right skating shoes are needed. You can't skate in slippers or boots so you will need a good pair of low-top sneakers. The reason these need to be low-tops is so that you give your feet more freedom to move. Skating shoes are available from all the popular brands like Adidas and Nike as well as from underground designer labels whose products can be found in skate shops.
