Three Reasons Why Protective Gear Is Very Important For Extreme Sports
In a world where several sports are developed and popularized, extreme sports have been one of the more popular sports nowadays. People 30-40 years ago would never have thought of using a skateboard and a bicycle to perform exhibitions and stunts. You may be familiar of this movie a few years back called “The Lords of Dogtown.” This is said to be the origins of skateboarding.
Over the years, more and more people have been hooked to skateboarding. It has grown so large that skateboarding has its very own sporting competition – the x-games. And as these “athletes” get more and more talented, more fans follow their progress. This means that corporate sponsors are also going to be drooling all over these extreme sports athletes. As to any sport, pain is part of being more skillful. It is important though that you protect our limbs from further harm.
1. Your limbs are too important to risk permanent damage.
Athletes aren't born great. Sure some are real talented in their respective fields, but it takes a lot of hard work to become the best in your field of sports. It's important to stress the athletes' safety so that their future as a pro athlete would still be intact. Breaking one's limbs could very well cause permanent damage and prevent them from realizing their true potential. This would mean that some athletes would no longer be able to do what they love and in turn lose their means of livelihood. This is why protective gear is so important. That's right, that helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads aren't just there for display. They aren't just called protective gear for no reason you know.
2. Be a good example.
If you're a pro athlete, or even a person who's good at it; there are a lot of people who look up to you and consider you as their role model. It's important that you project an image that safety comes first at all times. Skating or bmx biking without protective gear isn't something that makes you look cool, it's just something really foolish to do. It's like you're knocking on death's door. And if you keep knocking, someone's eventually going to come and answer that door. You might not be the one who could possibly die, but some person out there that who may have gotten the impression that skating without protective gear is safe might.
3. Your life is at stake.
Every time you get on that vert or whenever you try a new and awesome move that will get you a lot of attention; quite possibly that would attract you some fans, scouts, or even witnesses. Your next cool new maneuver could be your last if you're not careful enough. There's no harm in becoming a little bit ambitious, we would never get anywhere in this world if we never have any. But if we engage in dangerous sports like skateboarding, it's important that we know what the stakes are and what could possibly happen if we make a mistake or do some things wrong.
