Three Safety Factors When It Comes To Skateboarding

Skateboarding is a very risky and dangerous sport, which is why it belongs to the extreme sports category. A skater would always receive minor injuries and scratches along the way when performing stunts.

There are many skaters that have been permanently injured as a result of performing some skateboarding tricks and there are also those who have experienced life threatening injuries by engaging in this sport. However, despite the injuries and the danger, there are still many enthusiast and aspirants of such sport. Getting into skateboarding provides the skateboarder the fun, enjoyment, excitement and most especially the thrill when performing some tricks and stunts.

Skateboarding is one of the most exciting and thrilling sports but is it that dangerous? Maybe, not. If you have enough knowledge about it then maybe you will have a lesser risk of getting injuries. Here are some safety factors that you should know to prevent injuries from skateboarding.

• Wear protective gear at all times. It is vital for every skateboarder to wear the necessary and apparopriate protective gears such as helmets, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guard and cup for boys (to protect the family jewels) to lessen the risk of acquiring injuries when engaged in such a sport. Remember that skateboarding is an extreme sport and safety equipments should always be worn at all times to avoid any injury as much as possible.

Protective gears could save your life; a helmet could save you from a concussion and possibly brain damage that could be caused by such a sport. Those protective gears are sold in stores for safety purposes and not for fashion purposes, so remember to buy the proper set and use them always when skateboarding.

• Think of the safety precautions before proceeding to do anything. Think of your environment, your abilities and avoid doing stupid things. You can't skate in the middle of the road and you can't do it inside the mall. So mind your environment and check if your surroundings are nonhazardous; try to avoid crossing vehicles and people. It is also important to know your skills and abilities. Don't perform tricks that you think you are not yet capable of doing. Know your body and limitations so that you won't end up hurting yourself. Also avoid doing stupid things for it might cause you serious injury.

• Skate only in safe places. Avoid skating in dangerous locations such as the stairs and escalators. Try to watch videos on skateboarding accidents and you will notice that it is the environment that is the primary cause of such accidents. Search such things on YouTube or watch for TV shows that feature such. You would definitely hear the “ahhs” and “ohhs” plus you can definitely see the facial expression of the skateboarder under excruciating pain after having had the accident.

So stay and skateboard only in safe places. Avoid doing those stupid and nearly impossible to perform stunts and as well as skateboarding in hazardous places. You don't want to be the next one featured on such TV shows such as Sport's disasters and Extreme accidents.
