Six Safety Equipments When You Are Skateboarding
Skateboarding is a fun activity. You will most probably come across this great sport when you are a kid or in your high school years. It looks like an easy thing to do but it really isn't. On top of that, skateboarding can also be a very dangerous hobby and as a beginner you have to be prepared when it comes to protecting your body from injury.
Of course, not all injuries can be prevented when skateboarding, especially if you are practicing all those great tricks that you've seen professionals do. But at the very least, you can minimize the damage. Here are some items that you can get to help increase your protection as you go skateboarding.
• Grip tape – Make sure that your board has grip tape. You might see some skateboards with decks that are made of plastics or even rubber. These are not the kind of boards that you want to get.
Make sure that you have a proper wooden deck and that you have grip tape as a layer on the part where you stand. The grip tape is important because it provides you with traction so that you don't slip off the board. Your feet need to have a proper grip on the board in order for you to move properly on flat surfaces.
• Helmet – The most important part of the body to protect is your head; after all, it is where your brain is and you don't want to damage that. You will, more often than not, fall when you practice skateboard stunts.
To avoid injury to the head, make sure that you pick yourself up a helmet that will protect the front, back and the sides of your head. There are special skateboard helmets that you can purchase at skate shops and sports stores.
• Elbow pads – Skateboarding is something that even requires the use of your arms for balance. But if your elbows are not protected, you risk the dislocation of your elbow joints if you land on them as you fall. Make sure that your elbows are protected so that at the very least, you will only suffer from minor scratches.
• Knee pads – Again, this is the same thing that can happen to your elbows. Make sure that your knees are covered. Also make sure that you get proper kneepads that do not restrict movement and cause you to fall more than you are supposed to. Ask your local skate shop dealer for more information.
• Shin guards – Although largely unnecessary, shin guards can also help protect your legs or shin areas from damage. It can be very painful if you get hit on the shin for some reason.
• Fingerless gloves – Some skaters who like to do tricks that involve their hands on a half pipe, for example, like to use fingerless gloves so that it gives them better grip when they grab onto the edge of a half-pipe. These can also be useful if one falls off the board so that any possible scraping to the palms is avoided. You may want to consider these items for yourself as well.
